Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the legal requirements and responsibilities when transporting animals. Planning a journey by road, suitability of the vehicle, checking animals for fitness to travel, causes and signs of stress in animals, space allowances, stocking densities and segregation requirements, handling and animal welfare in transit and post-journey requirements.
Those transporting animals over 65 km, but less than 8 hours, in connection with economic activity must hold a certificate of competence to meet EU Welfare Regulations for the transportation of livestock. This includes sheep, cattle, poultry, game birds, pigs, horses and goats.

This is the basic foundation course for chainsaw operators. LANTRA assessment is ideal for farmers/growers using a chainsaw on their own holding or that of their employers. However, following attendance on this course, assessment can be arranged for NPTC 0020-03. This is the starting qualification for other chainsaw operators, ie those carrying out contract, arboricultural or commercial forestry work.

Consideration must be given to the provision of first aid in the workplace to comply with Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations. This course will give the knowledge and practical skills required for first aid provision where a first aid risk assessment has indicated that this level of cover is appropriate or to provide cover in addition to the full First Aid at Work qualification. This course covers the role of a first aider, managing an emergency, administering cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, dealing with choking, burns, bleeding and a casualty in shock, plus treatment of minor injuries. HSE approved and certification is valid for 3 years.

This course is HSE approved and certification is valid for 3 years. The initial certification is 3 days and requalification 2 days, which must take place within 28 days of certificate expiry.

The overall responsibilities of both the employer and employee will be made clear, along with risk assessments, managing contractors and other relevant regulations and approved codes of practice.

The course will cover risk reduction actions, the principals of fire safety management, evacuation procedures, the practical selection and use of fire extinguishers. To provide guidance, we shall visit a local farm to decide on appropriate risk control measures in a farm environment.

Those handling, storing and applying pesticides require appropriate certification under the Food Environment and Protection Act (FEPA). This means they are generally entitled to drive a vehicle and trailer combination up to 8.25 tonnes MAM. They also have entitlement to drive a minibus with a trailer over 750kgs MAM. Drivers who passed a car test on or after 1 January 1997 are required to pass an additional driving test in order to gain entitlement to category B+E and all larger vehicles.

Training will cover legislation, safety, exposure prevention, first aid, environment, wildlife, labels, product containers, storage, transportation, application equipment, handling, disposal of excess pesticide, spillages and record keeping. NRoSO and BASIS cpd points available. NPTC or LANTRA Level 2 assessment will be arranged.
